The Hindu Flag - Its Meaning and Symbolism

The Hindu flag, as simple as it may seem, holds great importance for Hindus but also for other religions. This representation of Indian values, also known as the Udgitha or the Pranava Mantra, is found in Eastern religions such as Buddhism, Sikhism, Shaivism, Jainism, and Brahmanism. The sacred symbol at the heart of the ensign, the Om symbol, represents the original sound from which the Universe is said to have structured itself and is used as a prefix and sometimes as a suffix to mantras in Indian culture. This symbol comes from the fusion of the Sanskrit phonemes A, U, and M.

Altogether, these Sanskrit phonemes, dating back to Hindu scriptures signify the beginning, birth, and the Brahman deity (the creator god Brahma). Fused altogether, the letters A, U and M are a representation of the continuation of life, and godly principles inspired by Vishnu. AUM, when chanted, details the cycles of life, death, creation and destruction inspired by the divine royalty that is Lord Shiva as per the tales of the garden of Sati. The saffron color found in the background of this symbol represents courage, sacrifice, and the spirit of renunciation. This saffron backdrop represents all the possible cultural and historical details that are specific to hinduism and hindu practice as per Lord Ram - a representation of Lord Vishnu, handling universal resources having created the Indus civilisation and its many technologies.
