Some details about Albania and its flag

Albania, which is officially designated as the Republic of Albania, is a country located in the Balkan Peninsula in Southern Europe. Bathed by two European seas, the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea, this country borders Montenegro, Kosovo and Macedonia. This parliamentary democracy is currently a member of NATO and has applied to join the European Union since 2009.

The Albania flag in question: its origins and history

The Albania flag consists of a red background with a black two-headed eagle (two-headed eagle). Of 5/7 size, it was adopted in 1992 as the national flag and flag of the country's State. Together with the merchant flag (two-tone flag with three horizontal stripes in red, black and red) and the war flag (two-headed black eagle on an acorn background with a red stripe in the lower part of the naval flag), it is part of Albania's set of vexillary emblem.

Its other emblems are the coat of arms of Albania, the national anthem known as "Hymni i Flamurit" (The hymn to the flag in the literal sense) and of course the emblematic animal and heraldic symbol of the country: the two-headed eagle.

The two-headed black eagle is said to have originated in the 15th century AD: it was on the official seal of Gjergj Kastriot Skanderberg, the leader of the revolt against the Ottoman Empire that brought the country to independence a few centuries later in 1912. The eagle with its wings spread embodies the freedom of the people and the red background, as you may have guessed, the blood that flowed for Albania. This eagle is a major patriotic emblem in Albania.
