The Liechtenstein flag is a two-tone flag with two horizontal stripes in blue and red. A gold crown appears in the upper left canton on the mast side. This civil and state flag was freely inspired by the ancient princely coat of arms of the 13th century for the colours.

On the other hand, the golden yellow crown was later added for the following reason, which is quite unusual in the history of the world's flags.  It was in fact during the 1936 Summer Olympic Games in Berlin when the country realized that its flag looked like the Haitian flag of the time that it decided to change its composition for the sake of uniqueness. It was therefore following the 1936 Olympic Games that the following year, in 1937, this new flag of Liechtenstein with the crown was adopted.
